Fire Department

The City of Silver Lake Fire Department's mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life for all citizens and visitors from the adverse effects of natural and man-made emergencies. 

Our goal is to provide a protection program through a cost-efficient approach to emergency response, fire code application and public fire education.

The Silver Lake Fire Department was established in 1889. For more than 100 years, the Silver Lake Fire Department has proudly provided Fire and Rescue protection to the residents of the City of Silver Lake, Hale Township, and portions of Rich Valley, Winsted, and Hassan Valley Townships. With the strong support of the City and Townships, the department maintains two pumper trucks, two tanker trucks, a rescue van equipped with "Jaws of Life", and a gamma goat (6-wheel grass rig) for fire and rescue activities. The department also maintains a vintage 1932 pumper truck which is proudly shown in parades and around the state.

SLFD Firefighters are required to attend the Basic Firefighter Course through South Central Technical College during their probationary first year on the department. In addition to their initial training, the Firefighters attend drills twice a month, and the department holds monthly meetings.

• Natural Gas Detection
• Vehicle Extrication (with Silver Lake Ambulance)
• Live Burns

In addition to drills and training, the department is also active in schools and the community, providing fire prevention training.

Meetings & Drills

• Drills are on the second Monday and the last Monday of the month.
• Meetings are on the last Monday of the month, after drill is performed.
